Virden Nail Salon Offers Beauty on the Square!
By Cindy Ladage
With the holidays fast approaching getting your nails in order maybe at the top of your list and luckily you don’t have to go any further than the Virden Square. Located at 149 E. Jackson St, right next to Country Financial, Ayşe Sucan offers an array of beauty services at the Virden Nail Salon. Patrons can get a manicure, pedicure, acrylic nails, receive eyebrow or facial waxing or a back massage to have the holiday stress rubbed right out!
At Virden Nail Spa, Ayse says, “Our customers are our top priority. Treat yourself to some great services and have a relaxing day.”
Ayşe Sucan is an experienced beauty professional. “I did nails at a salon in Litchfield before Virden. I have done nails for over 45 years.”
Starting out Ayse said that besides nails that in the past she also did hair as well, but these days she focuses on just nails, she said there is a lot less drama in nails. “I have been doing just nails since 1993, nails are my passion.”
Moving to the small town of Virden, she has been here almost seven years now. “I have been open in Virden since July of 2016,” Ayse said.
She decided to move her work life from Litchfield to Virden because she wanted to open and own her own shop. Before Ayse had worked at a salon rather than owning her own shop. “I didn’t want to compete with anyone,” she said about operating in a smaller town.
“I wanted to be located between Litchfield and Springfield,” Working at a nail salon in Litchfield previously, Ayse searched several small towns between the Capital City and Litchfield to see where salons were already located. “I searched Litchfield, Divernon, Girard etc.,” she said and didn’t see any other nail salons in the Virden area.
When looking for a place to rent, she went to Craig’s List, and everything literally happened all at once. “Virden, this listing for a rental popped up,” Ayse said. “This all came up in the same day. I came here, looked at the shop, and rented it.”
The building is the perfect size and was obviously perfect for Ayse’s business because in the past it had been used as a tanning salon and hair salon as well as a secondhand clothes retailer. Since opening her own shop, Ayse has never looked back. “I love being here. It is my shop, my business.”
One of the perks she is enjoying being part of the Virden community she added is, “Small town people are so nice.”
When she first came to town, she envisioned having other employees working with her, but that didn’t materialize, so it is just Ayse in a one woman shop loving what she does.
Jodie Jones of Virden said she found Ayse, “By accident and I have never looked back.”
Jodie added that enjoys not having to drive to Springfield to get her nails done. “She, Ayse does a really good job with nails and is easy to chat with,” Jodie said.
Most of Ayse’s customers are from the local central Illinois area. “Most come from Virden, Girard, Thayer, Carlinville and the Hillsboro area,” Ayse said.
Many of those customers from the Litchfield area followed her and are previous customers.
Ayse thinks having a nail salon is good for Virden. “I think more business makes people stay and offers opportunities.”
