Rovey Farm & Sales
By Cindy Ladage
Located in rural Farmersville, Rovey Farm and Sales was founded by Melvin Rovey in 1958. In business for over half a century, this thriving agricultural business is part of the central Illinois farm fabric. Dwight Rovey joined the business in 1979, right after he graduated from high school. As a long time GSI dealer out of Assumption, IL, this is a family business that includes Dwight’s wife Carol, their son Travis, daughter Devin, and son-in law Josh Powell along with Dwight’s nephew Daniel Rovey. “We are the next generation,” Josh said about Travis, his wife Devin, Daniel, and himself.
At Rovey Farm & Sales, they are involved in many aspects of the farming community. “As a GSI dealer, we sell and install grain bins, dryers and grain material handling equipment,” Josh said.
Dwight has even been part of a recent video talking about the positive aspects of working with GSI, as GSI recently celebrated 50 years in business.. “We also sell Shivvers dryers, Unitube belt conveyors, Country Clipper zero turn mowers, Westfield, Sukup, parts and accessories,” Josh added.
Throughout the 80s and 90s sales were mainly smaller farm bins that eventually progressed over the years to larger and commercial sized storage facilities that we see today.
Besides sales, service, and installation the Rovey family is also a working farm. Travis Rovey leads the foundation team, pouring all bin and dryer foundations and manages the farm.. Kooper Nimmo leads the construction team building the bins, and partners with Travis on the farm operation.
Adam Wise leads the service team, Daniel Rovey assists in all aspects of the business and farming, and Josh is the CFO/Office manager. Dwight, as the owneris in charge of sales. . Carol and Devin offer support where needed, whether that is delivering parts to jobsites, helping with IT, or doing payroll., “We employee 15 people, but that can fluctuate,” Josh said, “We have had as many as 20 and try not to get below a dozen.”
That is good news for local workers. The Rovey Farm and Sales team work mostly in the central Illinois area. “We try to stay within 90 minutes of Farmersville,” Josh added.
Harvest time is always high volume and a busy time of year for the Rovey group. Josh said they currently, “Still have one bin left to build for this season and that they are finishing up preseason dryer work.”
The Rovey team is up to challenges that come with working in the elements and with machinery. On a recent project, they posted on Facebook, “We had all hands-on deck this morning, waited out a storm, and got this new 30' 16 ring hopper tank installed on its base!”
Mostly installing new grain bins at Rovey Farm & Sales, they also overhaul as well. Recently, a bin got a facelift with a new foundation, floor, unload, fan, and 4 new rings.
While extremely busy, the team members also take time to connect and be part of the central Illinois, Farmersville, and Virden/Girard communities. Josh said, “Travis sits on the board for the Montgomery County Farm Bureau, and I sit on the board for the Girard Township as their Supervisor. Carol is the President of the Farmersville/Waggoner library board, and we also sponsor the holes for the barn-to-barn golf outing.”
The barn-to-barn outing funds both the local FFA and 4H chapters so Rovey Farm and Sales are supporting future farmers and a cause close to their heart. “Irish Days in Farmersville is also a big event for us,” Josh added. “We sponsored children’s games and Bingo this year.”
